Eat, speak and smile with confidence again. Dental implants – the modern choice for tooth replacement.

Key facts about dental implants

  • A dental implant is essentially a substitute for a natural root, made from titanium or titanium zirconium.
  • Titanium has been shown to bond well with bone and is generally well-tolerated by the human body.
  • Not everyone has enough jaw bone to secure an implant. If this is the case, sinus augmentation or bone grafting may be suitable options for you, which can be discussed with your surgeon.
  • Under local anaesthetic and on an outpatient basis, the implant is positioned in the jaw bone in the place of the missing natural tooth root.
  • Once fitted and healed, implants provide a stable and reliable foundation for the long-term support of crowns, bridges or dentures.
  • Well-maintained implants placed into adequate bone can be expected to last for many years. The quality of your home care and your willingness to attend regular maintenance reviews will help to ensure this.

What to expect during the placement process

Your treatment may be divided into two or three stages, each of which may involve several visits to your dentist.

Pre-Operative Assessment Icon

Pre-operative assessment
X-rays and impressions of your mouth will be taken and your surgeon will discuss and agree your treatment plan with you.

Surgical Treatment

Surgical treatment
Under local anaesthetic, the implants will be positioned into the jaw bone. They are usually left to heal for three months (removable dentures may be provided during this time) before they are used to support your replacement teeth.

Restorative Treatment

Restorative treatment
You will need a number of appointments to make your crowns, bridges or dentures. In total, your treatment could take between 6 to 12 months to complete.

Whether you have one or more missing teeth as a result of an accident, natural genetics, cavities or even periodontitis, just a small piece of titanium can help you feel more secure, comfortable and confident about your smile.

Why choose dental implants?

There are four reasons why you might consider dental implants:

A Natural Smile

A natural smile:
Because an implant-borne restoration looks just like a natural tooth, you are offered reliable stability and are provided with a natural-looking smile.

Tooth Preservation

Tooth Preservation:
When using an implant to replace a missing tooth, the neighbouring teeth are not affected. They do not need to be ground down and so their natural tooth surface remains intact.

Bone Preservation

Bone Preservation:
Implants ensure the continued transmission of chewing forces to the jaw bone. This helps not only to maintain the bone over time, but also your facial shape and structure.

Alternative to Dentures

A Long-Term Alternative to Removable Dentures:
Although you may need conventional, removable dentures during the implanting process, well-maintained implants can help you to enjoy a more comfortable experience when talking, smiling and eating for many years.
